Learning the notes on the guitar fret board is really essential to being a very good guitar player. I started playing guitar with easy chords to my favorite songs. I soon realized that I needed to learn the notes on the fret board in order to change easily from one chord progression to the next. I found that without knowing the notes on the fret board I could not tell what notes my fingers were pressed on at anyone time . Leaning new more difficult chords were harder to remember because I did not know the notes on the fret board without looking on a fret board chart.

One thing I recommend any aspiring or novice guitaress to do is spend maybe an hour watching videos of the basics of the piano keys . If possible spend time playing the keys on the piano .This has been invaluable to me and has made my learning the notes on the guitar fret board so much easier. My 13 year old son plays piano and to a very high standard and is self taught.( I will write about his amazing journey with piano later). I listen to him play piano and sometimes sit and go through his piano progressive books and play the chords on the piano.

There are many suggestions on mastering the notes on the fret board but I have not found any that have helped me. So I came up with my own 2 methods. The first method is naming the notes on the fret board with names of people I know eg my sister CAROLINE for C , Betty for B and so on. To know where these notes are I simply give them houses along the fret board so then I imagine visiting Caroline in all her houses on the fret board. On the way I imagine stopping and visiting Betty at all her houses. A bit silly you might say but You do know where all your friends live don't you ? Exactly!

My second method is simple math's equations. I am still working on making a neat template and will post it in November. This methods is fail proof ,quick and easy . I am so excited it will be a game changer for you.

Till next time .

Keep strumming
