I recently travelled overseas and had an amazing wonderful 3 week holiday with my family.
Alas I did not take my guitar with me.
What surprised me when got back was that I simply did not want to play guitar anymore. I actually felt that I didn't like music anymore.
This was very strange especially because I had bought a new guitar just before we had left I had only played one song on it. I had been so excited about coming back home to play it.
It took a while and a lot of effort to start playing guitar again. In my mind it was easier just to quit . I practiced for short periods. I also took time to read music theory . It took a while to slowly get back to loving guitar. I figured out that the problem was that I had forgotten the many reasons why I had started to play guitar. I also acknowledged that before I went on holidays I had reached a plateau in my guitar playing journey where I felt I wasn't getting any better at playing guitar no matter how much more I practiced.
When I figured out why I thought I didn't like music anymore I sat down and made a new strategy.
I decided to ONLLY play songs that I really love and to make quality time to study music theory looking at the info from a different perspective than before. I now spend more time maybe on one or two lessons and really ask my self why questions and set SMART goals. I am enjoying music theory more.
I have accepted that strumming with a pick is not easy for me so I will now endeavor to master guitar finger picking. I love this style and I will put out more videos on my mastering the guitar fingerpicking method.
I am also excited about now always playing with piano music accompaniment.
Please check out my video in the videos section.
Remember to always enjoy playing guitar and always keep learning.
Happy finger picking and strumming.
